Class of 2023 Vice Captain Lachlan Middlemiss is known for his excellence in community service and active engagement in making a difference for others. This was evident when  he received an award for community service from Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC Governor of New South Wales at Government House in Sydney last year - one of only 26 awardees from over 970 schools. We caught up with Lachlan, currently in his first year of university studying a Bachelor of Arts in Western Civilisation and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Wollongong to hear what he is up to now.

I’m currently… studying a Bachelor of Arts in Western Civilisation and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Wollongong.

I was at SPCC Gosford from… 2016 till 2023.

My best memory of SPCC is… helping in the school library each week.

Some staff members that particularly impacted me were… Mr Tim Ashby, Mrs Bronwyn Lobsey, and Mr Jono Lethbridge. Tim has supported and fostered my leadership and critical thinking skills, while Bronwyn and Jono have both ignited my passion for classic texts and philosophy which has got me to where I am today.

I never dreamed I would… do a degree in Liberal Arts and Law. For the longest time, I assumed I would be studying engineering, but in the last half of Year 12 I switched gears, and it couldn’t have been a better decision!

I’m most proud of… the impact I have had and continue to have on the community and those around me.

My greatest achievement is… receiving a scholarship for university study.

The best piece of advice I ever received was… to just go for it, whether it be applying for something, or taking a leap out of your comfort zone, a lot of the time the reward far outweighs the risk.
